INTRODUCTION
  • At Holy Name Central Catholic High School,  we continue to implement the technological solutions that will provide our administration, faculty and students with an edge toward educational excellence.
  • This requires that our enterprise be protected through conscientious and secure methods.

  • Examine the Log
  • Identify the top issues.
  • Brainstorm and address.
  • Present a Pareto summary of the issues.
  • Establish “To Do” list.
  • Formulate Tech Team.
  • Charge them to find solutions to problem list.

A. INSTALL / SUPPORT
    •  Document floor plans, Hubs, Switches, Wire  Closets.etc.
    •  Detail Server locations, Printers, desktops
    •  Develop IP addressing chart,  establish, confirm all Static IP addresses.
    •  Document Vendors for additional Hardware      Purchases,  i.e., cat 5 cable, hubs, switches..
    •  Document Phone Support Call List for Servers, Desktops, Network troubleshooting.

B. DESKTOP SUPPORT
  •  Establish team to support all Desktop issues.
  •  Develop standard Software and Hardware Conformity List.
    • a. Standardize the Office (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database)
    • b. Standardize the Virus software,  Spyware.  Limited budget recommendation:
      •  Grisoft/ AVGWare   &    Microsoft Spyware/Defender
    • c. Hire Knowledgeable or Train appointed support personnel on Standard packages.

B. DESKTOP SUPPORT (cont.)
  • Create "Ghosting" or "Mirroring" technique to quickly rebuild Desktop Units.


  • AUP Document and Training.


  • Policy on Backup Drives.
    • a. Assign User space on Network Server.
    • b. Backup from Server only.   No System Backups for Desktop drives.

  • Vendor search for BACKUP SOLUTION.
  • Choose solution.
  • Purchase, Implement, and Train personnel.
  • Daily Backup Routine with Rotating Tape Pool.  Monthly Backups.
  • Document Backup and Restore process.

D.  GENERAL TRAINING
  • Hire already trained support personnel to oversee entire Network Operation.
  • Develop a "Train the new employee" class.
    • Information about School policies.
    • Simple troubleshooting techniques.  Power check, cable connections, rebooting, standard software overview.
    • Instruction on MS/ Office Basics,  Internet Surfing/ Research Techniques.
    • Introduce Gradequick software.
