By now, you have explored the homepages to several local radio stations.  It is now time for you to create your very own homepage for your radio station.  The first thing that you need to do is come up with a creative name for your radio station.  This can be any name that you want as long as it is school appropriate.  Once you come up with a name, you need to incorporate that name into some type of creative banner that will be found at the top of your website.  Here are some examples from the sites that you have explored to get an idea:

Your banner needs to include your radio station name, have some type of creative graphic or logo, your frequency (ex. 98.5), and a slogan.  Here are some examples of slogans from the radio websites that you explored:.  The Country 99.5 slogan is, “Boston’s 10 in a Row Country Station”.  The Mix 98.5 slogan is, “Today’s Best Variety”.  The 106.3 FrankFm slogan is, “Southern New Hampshire’s #1 for Classical Hits”.  The WBCN slogan is, “The Rock of Boston”.

You will need to come up with a call letter for your radio station.  Call letters are the official, legal name of a radio station.  For example: WBCN, WBMX, WKLB etc.  Think of something creative for your site.

Another thing that you will have to come up with is a website address for your radio station.  The websites that we have been exploring in class are:  (If you are going to access these sites, open them in a new window)

www.mix98.5.com                www.kissfm.com                www.jamn945.com                 www.rock101wgir.com

www.1063frankfm.com        www.wxrv.com                   www.wklb.com

Try and think of something more creative than the names of these websites that gives your radio station site something unique if users were to logon to your site.

Once you come up with the items listed above, you have created the foundation that your site will be built around.  The other items that need to appear on your homepage are logos with a brief description of each of the following: your DJ bio, your two featured artists/bands, your local charity promotion, your music festival with multiple artists, your promotional giveaway/concert, and your top 20 song list.

You have two options from here:  You can create all of the logos and descriptions first and include them on your homepage and then go on to create the other pages of your site, or you can create all of the other pages of your site and then take the logos that you made for them and come back and put them on your homepage with a brief description.  The choice is totally up to you on what makes more sense and what is easier for you personally.
